C-COM Satellite Systems Inc. announced that European satellite operator Eutelsat has given type approval for operation of C-COM’s iNetVu Ka-75V mobile auto-deploying antenna system with the Eutelsat’s KA-SAT High Throughput Satellite and the NewsSpotter service. The iNetVu Ka-75V product is the first vehicle-mounted antenna system to get type approval from Eutelsat.
NewsSpotter provides mobile satellite Internet connectivity throughout Europe, North Africa, and a significant percentage of the Middle East. The service is integrated for the workflows of modern newsgathering operations and can transmit up to 20Mbps of High Definition and Standard Definition live video.
In mere minutes, the NewsSpotter satellite dish and terminal can be deployed, auto pointed, and then connect to the KA-SAT platform, ensuring a fast link from scene to screen. News crews can log-on to the Eutelsat operating portal and reserve satellite Internet bandwidth online through a self-booking application. They can also opt to prebook bandwidth for future use and guaranteed reservations.
C-COM and Eutelsat’s System Integration Team worked closely together for the past six months to ensure iNetVu Ka-75V was fully compatible with KA-SAT modems and that it would have a proper interface with the iNetVu controller. In addition, they were pleased to report that the iNetVu system has passed the Autopointing Verification Test -an important part of Eutelsat’s ESOG-1 Module 260 requirements- and the RF performance testing with flying colors.
C-COM also created a unique roaming feature for NewsSpotter. The company’s iNetVu system has an autopointing system that detects the KA-SAT beam frequency (color codes) based on GPS location and directs the modem to use the new beam. This frees the end user from having to perform any manual inputs during normal operations.
C-COM has already begun full-scale product of the iNetVu Ka-75V system. A number of the mobile antenna systems have been delivered to European resellers.
