Check out this video of a satellite ground station also known as a teleport facility (short for telecommunications port facility) through the view of the Google Earth application. These ground stations are the crucial links between end users and the powerful satellites orbiting the earth. Without them, there is no use in launching communications satellites. The Adelaide teleport facility you see in the video is operated by the Australian satellite company, NewSat Ltd. They use this facility to uplink to a range of satellites in both the C band and Ku band and deliver services such as data, video, and voice conferences; wireless backhaul solutions and broadcast networks; and even internet on satellite solutions for remote locations. The NBN project, also in Australia, is already building their own network of satellite ground stations, ten to be exact, that would be spread across Australia and uplink to Ka band satellite also under construction. The ten teleport facilities will be a crucial link for the provision of broadband access across Australia.
